Oh So Tired from Weight Lifting

Breakfast after Weights

I kicked started my weight lifting routine this week because I had neglected it during the first two weeks of the challenge. It was difficult trying to fit everything in. Now it’s all starting to fall into place, but I’ve had to move things around. For instance, I’m finding it easier to go to the gym in the mornings on Tuesday/Thursday because I drive right by it twice when I take Hayden to school. Might as well stop and spend an hour there. The only problem is I’m really tired after lifting and I have swim class in the afternoon. Last Tuesday, I came home after swim and practically passed out. I slept right through tri class and the Mercury game.

Then last night I fell asleep watching the Diamondbacks around 8pm. I slept for an hour and a half, then got up and went to bed at 9:30pm and slept all night. Yeah, I’d say I’m getting my 8 hours of sleep.

Today’s weight workout was lower body (WW III). I did squats on the Smith machine, 3 sets of 85lbs with a warm up set at 65lbs. My knees are so bad I have to warm them up. Once I do the warm up set they don’t creak as much. It’s really loud but it doesn’t hurt. Anyway, I’ve been trying to figure out how much the bar weighs too. I think it weighs 45lbs because there is no counter balance on the machine. I read somewhere:

For machines that don’t use counter-balance, the weight of the bar is the same as a standard bar, around 45lbs.

I know the free weights bar weighs 45lbs, so I’m hoping this is correct. I did three sets of 10 lunges with a 40lbs bar on my shoulders, alternating walking across the gym floor. Look out. Here I come. For some reason the guys like to watch this. Next I did 3 sets of straight leg dead lifts with 40lbs. I finished up with 4 sets of 10 sitting calf raises with 50lbs.

Before weights I ran for 25 minutes on the treadmill and stretched my lower body. Yes, I said stretch. I never stretch. That’s probably why I can’t touch my toes. I did something else I never ever do. Wait for it. I did ab work. Ha! I did. I did some ab machine 5 sets of 20. I can’t remember the weight. I was in shock I was doing ab work. lol. Then I did sit ups on a big red ball. I have a big red ball at home that I look at in the corner of the room, but I never use it. So that’s what that thing is for.

So I burned 508 calories this morning and I still have swim class tonight. Pictured is my breakfast after weights. I ate an apple before. I saw this new product in the store and thought I’d try it. It’s really good and has good stuff in it: whole grain rolled oats, whole grain rolled wheat, pecans, and whole flaxseed.
