I took yesterday off, so I thought I should probably do something meaningful for today’s workout. I wasn’t quite sure what that would be, so I just came up with a brick workout. My next race is a spring triathlon, and I have to ride 12 miles and run 3. So I decided to do [...]

I did my 30 mile bike ride on the paved trail by my house. It was the same ride as last time, two weeks ago. This time I rode with some friends, and we rode a lot faster. Last time it took me 2:11, and this time we shaved off 11 minutes and did it [...]

When I was in college, every Sunday was our long slow distance (LSD) run. It is one of the four elements of a good distance training plan: LSD, intervals, fartlek, and hill training. I’m just now starting to realize that cyclist don’t train much differently than runners do. I’ve been riding “seriously” now for about [...]

Early this week I was a little confused by my heart rate monitor’s “in the zone” feature. No matter what I do or how long I do it for, I’m never in the zone for more than a minute or so. Some how I feel like I’m missing out on something. Hey, I want to [...]

Got up to camp in Pinetop at about 11:45am after my 3 ½ hour drive. I hung out for a bit and then went for a road ride on my Felt. The first two miles were riding through town, so that was a bit hairy, but once I got on the uninhabited road, only [...]

I am unfortunate enough to live in a suburb of Phoenix, which is really a pretty big city, Peoria. I say unfortunate because I work in Phoenix and my commute is 32 miles one way, that’s:
64 miles round trip
1 hour drive one way during rush hour
$70 a week in gas
What it adds up to is [...]

It has been a while, and boy can I tell the difference. My body is starting to go soft again. I went for a road bike ride this morning on my Felt F65. It just had to be done. When you get in a lull and you can’t get yourself to exercise, what [...]

Okay, as I was heading out the door for the gym today, Cammie said I was obsessed. Obsessed? What is she talking about. I’m just serious this time. I’m making it happen instead of dreaming about it happening. What she was referring to was the fact that going to the gym was my 3rd workout [...]

I’m so bummed I can’t figure out how to work this thing. Some days it just works fine. Others I can’t get either the GPS to latch on to a satelite or I can’t get my watch to read the signal. I think I finally figured it out on the last part of the hike. [...]
